Board of Advisors - Peter Conti

Peter Conti, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Conti is a Professor at the University of Southern California with academic appointments in the Departments of Radiology, Biomedical Engineering, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and medical degree from Cornell University. His Ph.D. in Biophysics was completed at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He is board-certified in Nuclear Medicine (ABNM) and Diagnostic Radiology (ABR). Dr. Conti has been the Director of the USC PET Imaging Science Center since its inception in 1991. His research activities have focused on the development of novel PET and hybrid imaging agents for diagnostic and theranostic applications in cancer and other diseases. Dr. Conti has published over 300 peer-reviewed papers in the field of molecular imaging. He is the 2016 recipient of the Paul C Aebersold Award from the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging for his achievements in the basic science of nuclear medicine and was the 2018 Peter Valk Award recipient for his pioneering work in clinical Positron Emission Tomography. In 2019 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American College of Nuclear Medicine and in January of 2020, the President’s Award in recognition of his service to the College. In June 2020, Dr. Conti received the Benedict Cassen Prize from the Education and Research Foundation for his pioneering work in the development of novel radiopharmaceuticals and clinical PET applications for cancer imaging, and his volunteerism and service to the molecular imaging community. The Prize honors the memory of Benedict Cassen, the inventor of the rectilinear radioisotope scanner—the first instrument capable of making an image of radiotracer distribution in body organs of living patients, and was seminal to the development of clinical nuclear medicine.

Twyla Bartel, DO, MBA

Twyla Bartel is a Fellow and Immediate Past President of the American College of Nuclear Medicine (ACNM), She was a professor of radiology and PET Director at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). She completed a nuclear medicine residency and a PET/CT fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She has conducted extensive research in the field of radiology, particularly on the accuracy of PET in detecting various types of cancer. She has received numerous awards for her research, including the Research Fellow Award from the Radiological Society of North America and the Young Investigator’s Award from the Missouri Chapter of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. In addition, Dr. Bartel also holds an MBA and has extensive experience in business.

Board of Advisors - Tracy Yarbrough

Tracy Yarbrough, M.D.

Tracy Yarbrough is a professor of pharmacology and physiology at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and was previously a professor of nuclear medicine and director of the nuclear medicine residency program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where she was also in charge of all imaging protocols. After earning a degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Southern California, she completed both an M.D. and a Ph.D. in physiology and biophysics at the University of Iowa, and a residency in nuclear medicine at Johns Hopkins. She has published an enormous volume of peer-reviewed research, particularly including PET and SPECT imaging, and has been involved in ACRIN/NIH image interpretation and research.

Stephen Belcher

Steve Belcher, CEO of PermaFix Medical, is an entrepreneur and a top nuclear medicine executive with nearly 20 years of experience. Having first served as Sales Director for Cox Nuclear Pharmacy, for almost 12 years he next served as Vice President and Board Director for Cyclotron Services of America before founding and serving as a Principal of Triad Isotopes, formed in 2007. Benefiting from his leadership, Triad has grown to 60 pharmacies and $270 million in sales. He contributed to the success of Triad as its architect, and in roles ranging from VP of Sales and Marketing to VP of Strategic Accounts. In this last role Steve helped secure over $300 million in growth opportunities in his last 2 years alone.

Julie Butler

Julie Butler joins our team as a recent graduate of Oxford University’s MBA program. She also holds a Masters degree in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. Her background is in finance and consulting, in both business and charitable organizations in both the U.S. and abroad, including Promethean Spark International, Rescue a Million and Every Child a Hero. She was selected as a youth member of the Council for National Policy and has advised several NGOs at the United Nations. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Wellbeing Institute at Cambridge University.

Jerry Graves

Jerry Graves brings forty years of hands-on experience growing multibillion-dollar businesses, including 23 years with Coca-Cola, five of those years as Southeast Region Vice President. He has led turnarounds for several key divisions, and during his tenure leading the Florida region multiplied Coke’s statewide revenue 4X in four years. He brings strong expertise in operational management, developing new markets, successful introduction of new product lines, cash flow management, personnel development, and development of customer relationships.

Jonathan Killman

Jonathan Kilman, founder of Converge Government Affairs, is one of Florida’s top lobbyists, advocating for Fortune 500 Companies, some of Silicon Valley’s biggest brands, and an array of regional and non-profit world-changers, managing their U.S. and global government affairs portfolios. He previously co-chaired the Florida government affairs practice of an AmLaw 100 law firm, where the practice he helped build earned recognition as Florida’s most influential law firm by Southern Political Report. He holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was senior editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a B.A. with highest honors from the University of Florida, where he graduated as the University’s “Outstanding Male Leader Graduate” and has since been elected to the University of Florida Hall of Fame.

Ross Mason

Ross Mason is President of Samaritan’s Road International and Founder and Executive Director of HINRI Labs. He holds a Wharton MBA in finance, spent fifteen years in real estate in Moscow, Russia, and became a quadriplegic in 2007 while training for the New Zealand Ironman. His continuing disability has held him back not in the slightest, and his can-do spirit and graciousness is a genuine inspiration to all who meet him. Ross is the former Board Chairman of the Department of Community Health ($11.2 billion annual budget, 660,000 covered lives, the 3rd largest health plan in the United States) and former Chairman of the Metro Atlanta United Way’s Health Access Board. He is currently a Senior Fellow at the Georgia Public Policy Foundation and a member of Emory University’s Healthcare Advisory Board.

Mark S. Thomas

Mark S. Thomas of the Thomas Health Law Group in Gainesville and Santa Rosa Beach is Florida Bar Board Certified in Health Law and specializes in regulatory compliance.  Mr. Thomas has represented a wide range of healthcare entities before the various government regulatory and law enforcement agencies for almost 30 years.  Previously, he was:  Chief of Staff for the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration; Director of the Florida Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit; Senior Attorney with the Florida Senate Health Committee; an administrator at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale; and, a manager with the Humana Medical Plan in Miami.  He has 49 reported healthcare-related court decisions and has developed several of Florida’s most sophisticated hospital-based physician joint ventures.  Mr. Thomas routinely handles practice transactional matters, to include start-ups, purchases, sales, and mergers.  In addition to his law degree, Mr. Thomas has graduate degrees in Healthcare Finance and Health Services Administration.  He has also taught health law at the University of Florida.
